Mayor Carolyn Goodman has issued a proclamation officially declaring January 2, 2012, “deadmau5 Day” in the City of Las Vegas. This marks the date the electronic music phenomenon will launch his exclusive partnership with Wynn Las Vegas, debuting at XS nightclub during New Year’s Eve weekend and continuing with additional dates at both Encore Beach Club and XS through 2012.
“Throughout the past year we have seen the masses journey to Las Vegas to experience electronic dance artists headlining in our nightclubs,” said Jesse Waits, co-owner and managing partner of XS and Tryst nightclubs. “The following for deadmau5 is phenomenal. I applaud Mayor Goodman for recognizing both his remarkable persona and his ability to drive visitor traffic from fans traveling across the globe to experience his live sets.”
“deadmau5 represents the cream of the crop in electronic dance music, a genre of music that has made a significant positive financial impact to the city in the past year,” said Sean Christie, co-owner and managing partner of Encore Beach Club and Surrender Nightclub. “Mayor Goodman’s proclamation is a symbolic acknowledgement of this wildly popular entertainment form that has come to define the best in Las Vegas nightlife.”
The honor is a great addition to deadmau5’s list of accolades including recently being nominated for three Grammy Awards. He is up for nods in the Best Dance/Electronica Album category for his critically acclaimed LP 4×4=12 and Best Dance Recording for “Raise Your Weapon” with Greta Svabo Bech. Also nominated is deadmau5’s stellar remix of the Foo Fighters’ “Rope” in the Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical category.

FYI: Born Joel Zimmerman on January 5, 1981, Deadmau5 rose to prominence when his track “Faxing Berlin” found its way onto the playlist of legendary DJ/producer Pete Tong’s radio show. Deadmau5 soon became an important figure in the world of progressive house music, with his songs appearing on more than 15 compilation releases (including In Search of Sunrise, Vol. 6: Ibiza). A native of Toronto, Canada, he released his work through his own label, Mau5trap Recordings, and scored a number of awards in 2008, including a Juno Award for Dance Recording of the Year. He released Random Album Title that same year along with the first volume of the remix-collecting At Play series. The year 2009 saw the release of the singles collection It Sounds Like along with the mix album For Lack of a Better Name, while the studio album 4 X 4 = 12 followed in 2010. ~ Chris True, Rovi
